Wait a minute. Is that … can that be Luis Silva, past owner/operator of Lui Bueno’s restaurant in Haleiwa Town, back in his same kitchen, in his chef’s hat?

Yes, Luis is back, and his new restaurant on his previous site, “Jorge’s Tacos & Ceviche,” has been serving delicious “Baja Mex” style food in a family
restaurant setting for weeks now. And for those North Shore residents who ask if Haleiwa needs another Mexican restaurant besides Cholo’s … well,
I’m a guy who was raised in L.A., who can remember buying “XLNT tamales” from a bicycle-powered vender in front of my elementary school for 25 cents. Can’t have too much Mex, Baby.

The guy who tipped to me that Luis was up and running is Will Schoettle, Luis’ landlord at Haleiwa Town Center, aka “the Haole guy.” Like me, Will
was raised in L.A., so he eats at Jorge’s Tacos at least once a week. Will recommends the ahi burrito as “excellent.” Will also likes Guillermo style Quesadilla.

Luis characterizes Jorge’s as, “surf culture fresh Mex,” so photos of Brock Little and many other North Shore surfers hang from his walls. Luis still
paddles out, like Will does, like I used to … every guy on the North Shore surfs, seems like. And most of the girls.

So do yourself, and Luis a favor. Grab yourself a meal at Jorge’s Tacos & Ceviche. Hell, sit in the sun … Luis has added outside tables. Go Mex, Baby.
