Did you hear about the huge wave that hit the streets of Haleiwa? No, it wasn’t from the latest north swell. It was the 400 runners and walkers at Loko Ea’s 2nd Annual Fun Run! On Sunday, March 17, 2019, runners sprinted through the streets of Haleiwa, across a historic airstrip, over a private beach area and finished at Haleiwa Beach Park. This was truly an international event with participants from Australia, Canada, Japan, and Germany joining racers from Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Guam, and Hawaii. With food, craft, and educational booths, music, hula, and door prizes, this fundraiser for Malama Loko Ea Foundation (MLEF) raised public awareness of Haleiwa’s own Loko Ea, an over 400 year old Native Hawaiian fishpond. This event was part of Malama Loko Ea Foundation’s on-going fundraising for their Ho‘olala Preservation, Kulaiwi
Nani Restoration, and Kupuohi Education programs.

Malama Loko Ea Foundation would like to send a heartfelt mahalo to the following sponsors, donors, and volunteers:
