Judd Boloker has lived and worked in Honolulu, Hawaii for the past 13 years. His work has been exhibited in local galleries, the Honolulu Museum of Art, and throughout the Mainland at galleries in Chelsea NY, Los Angeles CA, and Scottsdale AZ. Judd is best known for his lei prints, an ongoing series begun in the summer of 2011. The work, currently numbering 75 pieces (and counting), depicts Haku sourced from Lei shops in Honolulu Chinatown to workshops of Hawaii Lei Masters.

Judd first received art training at the age of ten in the basement of a local Long Island artist, and supplemented this training with illustration courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The study of Japanese history has brought Eastern influences to his work, while time spent living on both the East and West Coast of the Mainland has exposed him to a wide variety of American culture, landscape, and design elements.

The search for interesting designs has even lead to lei makers living in Japan. The survey’s breadth pays homage to the amazing range of work found on the islands, while the vivid presentation style gives the genre a modern twist reflecting the vibrant Hawaiian culture.
