Long after Jack London and James Michener wrote their classic stories of the Hawaiian Islands culture, many local authors have continued telling their own stories of our islands. You can find many of these books in our Hawaiiana Section of the library. Anybody remember reading the classic novel, All I Asking For Is My Body, by Milton Murayama? Written in 1975 using modified Pidgin, it tells of local Japanese-American
residents’ lives before and during WWII. There are also books by authors such as Lois-Ann Yamanaka, Kimo Hollinger, Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, and Chris McKinney. You may be able to find a copy of Pidgin to da Max or Stories of Old Hawaii by Roy Kakulu Alameida or Don’t Look Back. Hawaiian Myths Made New, an anthology of modern mo’olelo. Walking past the public-use computers and turning right, you will find the Waialua Library’s comprehensive Hawaiian fiction and non-fiction collection ready for your reading
pleasure.
