Please respect trees by not hammering nails into them. Did you know that when you hammer a nail into a tree, you expose the tree to germs and poisons that can invade, damage or even kill the tree? Sure, most of the time, a small hole does not do permanent damage to a tree, and the tree usually heals quickly. However, sometimes a nail that is driven into a tree can open the way for fungus, diseases and pathogens. If these reach the xylem (pathways that carry water and nutrients through the tree), the entire tree can be compromised.

Also, nails are made of metal. Metal corrodes. This corrosion puts potentially deadly poisons into the tree. Once

Once a tree is compromised by pathogens or corrosion, at best it will have a harder time reaching its full, beautiful potential; at worst, any stresses on top of this, such as drought, could kill the tree.

So please respect trees, and thank you for supporting the NSOC. It is our mission to keep the North Shore – clean, green, and beautiful. Aloha
