2018 is here and I would like to wish you much happiness. What does happiness mean? To me, it is a state of wellbeing and satisfaction with the way your life is progressing. This is a process that takes time. The following are my suggestions for achieving happiness.

First, you need a purpose in life that gives meaning to your life and utilizes your special talent, whether it’s being musically gifted, being good with people or having a talent for organization and management.

Second, give of yourself to others. In giving, we receive the gift of joy. Give of yourself by listening to others in their time of need. Volunteer in community projects. Be a Big Brother or Big Sister. Donate to a charitable organization you believe in.

Third, nd joy in your life. Sometimes, we forget to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. Make time to do something fun with family and friends. Lighten up and laugh more. If something bad happens (It always does!), deal with it. Pick yourself up and move on. Stressing about it never helps. It just makes you sick.

Make rules for yourself like, “Once a week I will do something fun. “Living a good life sometimes requires discipline.

Fourth, nd a way to do something you’ve always wanted to do. This may take time and/or moneyliketakingatripsomewhere.Forme, when I returned to Hawaii in 2000, I bought a ukelele which sat in my closet for 17 years. I nally have some time to take lessons and to practice and am nally playing my uke. Initially, my instructor had to use oil to loosen up my rusty keys.

Fifth, keep physically and mentally. Eat healthy, get enough sleep/rest and stimulate your brain. If you’re not healthy, it is a challenge to implement my suggestions for achieving happiness. Have a happy life!
