The 64th Annual Kunia Orchid Show and Plant Sale will be held at the Leilehua High School Gymnasium on March 23, 24, and 25, 2018. Show hours are 9 am to 5 pm on Friday and Saturday and 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday. The Kunia Orchid Show is the largest orchid show of the spring season and one of the best ower shows on Oahu. Admission is free and there is plenty of available parking. There will be ve local orchid clubs showcasing their very best blooming specimens. With Easter just a week later, the show is a good opportunity to select a variety of beautiful plants for home decoration. There will be twenty-two plant vendors selling an amazing selection of live orchid plants, house plants and the always popular honohono orchid. Educational displays focusing on invasive species, cactus and succulents and Sogetsu Ikebana will be featured throughout the three days of the show.

The “Orchid Diversity” session scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at 3:00 pm will be a presentation by a nationally renowned orchid expert Mr. Thomas Mirenda, the Director of Horticulture and Garden Operations for the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden in Hilo. Tom started as a Marine Biologist at UH Manoa before pursuing his love of horticulture. He spent 17 years with the Smithsonian Institution developing educational and ornamental orchid exhibitions. He has been a columnist for Orchids Magazine for twelve years and in 2017 co-authored and published The Book of Orchids containing intriguing and unusual information about 600 orchid species. He will be available to sign limited copies of his book for sale at the show. This rare opportunity to hear such a renowned author is a “not to be missed” opportunity for all orchid enthusiasts.

The Kunia Kountry Store will be open offering different kinds of plants, gardening supplies, fertilizers, wooden baskets, hanging wires, plants tags and clips along with homemade baked goods, jellies and much more. A local expert will be in the Store to answer questions regarding the garden products for sale. Proceeds of various food booths manned by students during the show will bene t several clubs and the athletic department of Leilehua High School.

There will be hourly door prizes and the 2018th Visitor and will receive a basket full of beautiful orchids in bloom. While they last, complimentary “Enjoy” products will be given to everyone as they exit the show!
