Finn McGill, 17, from the North Shore of Oahu, Pupukea, earned the 2017 World Junior Champion title at Bombo Beach in Australia. McGill managed to rise above an ankle injury to claim the coveted 2017 title. Sur ng against a blisteringly Japanese competitor, Joh Azuchi, McGill linked together a chain of giant backside turns in the nal heat, which saw Azuchi requiring a combination of two-scores. The surfer from Japan is proof that Japan has a great opportunity to win Gold at the upcoming Olympics in 2020 in their own backyard! McGill joins the list of current Hawaiian World Champions, John John Florence, Paige Alms and Honolua Blom eld!
