On Thursday, April 10th, the community gathered at the Historic Hale’iwa Gym for the Town Hall Meeting featuring Mayor Rick Blangiardi along with senior leaders from the City and County of Honolulu and the team members who run the city.
The Mayor welcomed the North Shore residents and business owners, starting the meeting with introductions, afterwards taking a moment to congratulate he well deserved heroes with a honorary certificate on behalf of the City and County of Honolulu which read: “In recognition of your bravery, swift action and unwavering commitments to saving lives demonstrated on February 23rd, 2025 in the heroic rescue of surfer Makai McNamara. Your immediate response and expert life-saving skills and steadfast dedication in the face of a life-threatening emergency were instrumental in preserving a life. Your courage and professionalism embody the very best of Honolulu’s ocean safety and serve as an inspiration to us all…”
Mahalo to the North Shore surfers, Honolulu/ North Shore Ocean Safety Lifeguards, dispatchers, and Honolulu EMS paramedics from the quick thinking of the surfers, to the lifeguards and first responders working together to bring Makai to safety.
