Studies of our coastal areas have shown that through the years our beaches are eroding about 1 foot per year. Some scientists say there will be a 100 foot loss in 30 years. In the meantime, the City and County has moved the lifeguard tower at Sunset Beach back 12 feet.

According to Chip Fletcher, Associate Dean at UH Manoa and Professor of Geology and Geophysics we can help slow down beach erosion by restricting air travel, eating a more plant based diet, having smaller families and going with electric cars.
