Hale`iwa Elementary’s 5th grade robotics team, Cane Fires 96712B, is off to the Vex IQ World Championship Elementary School Division in Louisville, Ky. this week. The Cane Fires, named after the sugar plantation days, won 2nd place in the Teamwork Challenge at the Hawaii State VEX IQ Championship Elementary Division in March. The school’s program began just three years ago, and this 5th grade Cane Fires team, in their first year of competition, will be competing against top-ranked robotics teams from over 40 countries.

Supporters of the program include Waialua High and Intermediate School, Complex Area Superintendent Robert Davis, The Marshall and Yuuko Hung Foundation, Pioneer/Coteva, and the families and staff of Haleiwa Elementary.
